The New MacBook Pro: A Powerhouse

Meet the new MacBook Pro! The latest and greatest in Apple’s line of laptops, the updated MacBook Pro offers some key new features in its technology as well as its design. As Apple writes, “When compared to the previous-generation high-end 13-inch model, the all-new 14-inch MacBook Pro is immensely more powerful.” Starting at $1,999, the new MacBook Pro may well be worth the bang for its buck. As for the design, did you hate the old Touch Bar? It’s gone! Miss having USB ports in your laptop? They’re back! Apple’s changes reflect their latest innovations and their attention to valued user feedback from previous MacBook models. So, is the new MacBook Pro right for you?

Key Features if you: LOVE GRAPHICS

  1. Apple’s updated M1 processor technology: boosts graphics performance from 2.5x-4x the previous MacBook Pro’s capabilities (depending on the model you choose)

  2. Liquid Retina XDR display: elevates brightness and improves contrast, making blacks deeper and whites brighter!

  3. Ports (HDMI, three Thunderbolt 4 ports, SD card slot, and a change back to the magnetic charger vs USB-C charger) are back! Great for graphics and visual designers who regularly use SD cards and more.

Key Features if you: WORK REMOTELY

  1. Battery life: up to 17 or 21 hours (depending on the model)

  2. Six speaker sound: provides spatial audio capabilities perfect for watching videos, listening to music, or taking work calls!

  3. Built-in microphones provide studio-quality audio, providing maximum clarity when you’re in an important Zoom call

  4. 1080p front-facing web camera allows you to be seen at your best!

Key Features if you: VALUE THE AESTHETIC

  1. Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is an all black keyboard (vs. the previous MacBook’s black keys which stood out against the aluminum laptop)

  2. No more Touch Bar

  3. Narrower border between the laptop’s edge and its screen allows for maximum display size, but note that there is a “notch” at the top of the laptop where the front-facing camera is situated

  4. ProMotion feature: improves refresh rates when updating page displays, creating a smoother browsing experience for you.

To sum it up, the major differences of note between the new MacBook Pro and its predecessor include an improvement in visual display, providing “refined specular highlights, incredible detail in shadows, and vibrant, true-to-life colors”, the replacement of the Touch Bar with the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, and improved camera and audio quality for all of your e-meetings!

The new MacBook Pro is perhaps most notable in the ways it represents a response to Apple users’ feedback. Bringing back the ports, taking out the Touch Bar, none of these changes make the new MacBook Pro a must-buy, but they do show Apple’s commitment to its users. We’d love to hear your feedback on their latest MacBook Pro release!
